Dealing with "volsnap" errors in the System event log Last Updated: May 02, 2016 03:11PM CEST The "volsnap" source errors are events that are listed in the Windows System event log. It is used as a file server for a 50 person network and alsohas two hyper-v's. WSBhas been, for months, happily managing the deletion of oldest backups to make room on the drive. This solves the problem.

Virtually no older backup file versions could be recovered. An extra 3 minutes to boot and an error 25 followed by 2 error 27s.
So i changed this to another drive on the server which had about 200 gb of free space, and tested the backup again. This usually points to a disk issue on the drive being referenced and there should be ‘Disk’ or ‘Ntfs’ events at the same time that give more information on the issue. The only problem with this kind of solution is that it effectively makes the exclusions invisible to anything which uses a VSS snapshot, so you may have to keep changing the I am far from being an expert on VSS.

Consider reducing the IO load on the system or choose a shadow copy storage volume that is not being shadow copied. 3 times now we've lost 2 weeks of snapshots because This change distributed the load of the VSS process amongst the 2 drives (read sourcefiles from G:, write shadowcopy of them to E:\, then write backup of E:\ to G:\B2D again), http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826936 The shadow copies of volume VolumeName were aborted because the diff area file could not grow in time.
All previous VSS copies removed. Two backups were being made each day to the attached drive, one at 12pm and one at 9pm. Is there any answer that Microsoft would be willing to provide for those of us that are struggling to find the answers? To answer my own question about whether to move VSS storage or pagefile, MS has made the decision for me, by crippling vssadmin under Windows 7.
I wish Microsoft support could keep up on these threads. The VSS shadow copy space on the target volulme. I rebooted the server and I noticed that WSB opened quickly but my backups were not accessible anymore from Recover..., only the one it did previously.
