There was an additional entry in each location pointing to a non existing folder in the users downloads. Looks like I need to wipe VS2010 from my system and do a complete re-install. However, even though it indicated that it completed successfully and that VS 2010 was removed, the entry still exists in the Control Panel and the shortcut still spawns VS 2010.
