Other symptoms might show "general system Error" in vSphere Update manager (if you're using it). You'll basically need to create a persistent scratch location for ESXi. THen I followed this KB article to clean up and stop it from happening again.

I have attempted to restart the management agent (services.sh restart), and forcefully kill/restart the hostd service. Failed with reason: No space left on device This could be caused by the fact that ESXi is running out of inodes. I also get the Server refused to allocate pty, and have worked around SSH by using winscp and issue commands using the terminal. This disconnects the ESXi host from the VirtualCenter Inventory.

In this KB Article "/var/run/sfcb/" is explicitly called out and also explains what you can delete and how. What i did is that i put option monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE" in vmx. any idears?
